Chinese smartphone maker OPPO announced on February 10 that it is establishing the OPPO University, with CEO Tony Chen as principal and vice president Alen Wu as vice principal.

The OPPO University, which is open to both internal employees and eco-partners, aims to develop a talent pool to fuel OPPO’s globalization strategy, it said.

Wu reports directly to Chen in his role as vice-principal. In order to focus on the preparation and management of OPPO University, Wu is no longer in charge of overseas marketing business. Mac Zeng, OPPO’s senior vice president and COO, will serve as president of overseas sales.

“OPPO has always attached importance to the cultivation of talents, and a professional talent team is a key for OPPO to become a world-class technology company,” Chen said.

“Through OPPO University, we hope to continue to enhance the capabilities of our global employees, activate innovative thinking, and expand our global vision, laying a solid foundation for OPPO to become a leader in the era of integration of everything,” Chen said.

Previously, Huawei established Huawei University to nurture and deliver talent for Huawei’s key businesses. Xiaomi, Alibaba, and Tencent have also established their own universities.

The establishment of OPPO University will help build a professional technical and management talent echelon, support the refined management and operation of OPPO’s organizational capabilities, match the rapid development of the company’s business, and become an enabler of the company’s strategic transformation, OPPO said.
