China's February NEV sales up 584.7% year-on-year

China’s new energy vehicle sales in February were 110,000 units, up 584.7 percent from a year earlier, according to a report released Thursday by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.


The output of new energy vehicles in February was 124,000 units, up 720.0 percent year-on-year.


China’s new energy vehicles have set new monthly production and sales records for eight consecutive months.


Pure electric vehicle production in February was 107,000 units, up 720.0% year-on-year, according to the report.


Sales of pure electric vehicles in February were 92,000 units, up 580.0% year-on-year.


Plug-in hybrid vehicle production was 16,000 units, up 740.0% year-on-year.


Sales of plug-in hybrid vehicles were 17,000 units, up 590.0% year-on-year.


Fuel cell vehicle production and sales were 25 and 28 units, according to the report.


From January to February, the production of new energy vehicles was 317,000 units, up 390.0 percent year-on-year.


From January to February, sales of new energy vehicles were 289,000 units up 320.0% year-on-year.


Among them, the output of pure electric vehicles was 273,000 units, up 460.0% year-on-year;


From January to February sales of pure electric vehicles were 243,000 units, up 360.0% year-on-year


Production of plug-in hybrid vehicles in January-February was 44,000 units, up 170% year-on-year;


January-February sales of plug-in hybrid vehicles were 46,000 units, up 180% year-over-year.


The production and sales of fuel cell vehicles in January-February were 59 and 91 units respectively, down 59.3% and 46.8% year-on-year.


The current global chip shortage has a huge impact on the auto industry, with the most severe impact on China in the first quarter, with the estimated impact on the first-quarter production at about 5%-10%.


However, different car companies are affected by the chip shortage to different degrees, as well as the chip shortage is short-term and will be alleviated in the second quarter, according to Chen Shihua, deputy secretary-general of the association.
